HUM YEW
Moonshots · In development
A shortstop who quit too early, drove too long, and finally found his way back to the diamond. Shoresy meets Bull Durham meets Ted Lasso.
Created by Luke Bockenstette
A shortstop is a way of moving through the world.
A failed shortstop turned struggling comedian gets handed a microphone in a minor league booth, and the game he quit too early starts pulling him back.

Denny is a failed shortstop turned struggling stand-up comedian driving a 2001 Z28 Camaro up and down Southern California.
Town to town. Bar to bar. Living on a playlist and a prayer.
He's sharp. He's funny. He reads every room like a shortstop reads a field, three moves ahead, always. He has a code, a ritual for every clutch moment, and a car he named after an old woman that he talks to more than most people.
He also quit the game too early. And he's been driving in circles ever since.
Baseball was how his dad said I love you. The only channel they had.
When a chance encounter with a struggling minor league team pulls him back into the orbit of baseball, and into the life of the stat girl who runs their numbers, everything starts to crack open. He ends up with a microphone, his high school second baseman in the booth next to him, and an entire stadium hearing "that was an absolute piss missile" come through the PA for the first time.
They have no idea what hit them.
Neither does Denny.
HUM YEW is part comeback story, part love story, part excavation of a guy who grew up too fast, sacrificed the thing he loved most, and has spent the better part of a decade performing confidence he doesn't always feel.
The tone sounds like Santeria at 6am on the 101. It sounds like two idiots going viral doing drunken commentary on a bar darts game. It sounds like a full stadium on a summer night and a phone call to your dad after.
HUM YEW. Come on, you. What you yell from the dugout when your guy is up and you need him to come through. What Denny says into the mic on his very first pitch without thinking. What this whole show is, underneath everything.
A man finally willing his own self to come through.
